Baked Egg with Cheese and Chives/Green Onions

2 cups coarsely grated Gruyère cheese (6 oz/170 g), or other white cheese

½ cup chopped chives (spring/green onions)

10 large eggs

1½ cups whole (full cream) milk

4 oz (113g) cream cheese, softened (we often use camembert or brie cheese)
Preheat the oven to 350ºF with rack in middle.

Butter a 2-quart (1.89 litres) shallow baking dish — 2" (5cm) deep.

Sprinkle cheese and chives evenly in dish.

Blend eggs, milk, and cream cheese in a blender with ½ teaspoon pepper and 1/4 teaspoon salt until smooth.

Pour egg mixture over cheese and chives in the dish and bake until puffed, set, and golden, 35 to 45 minutes.
